The Office of Professional Responsibility, the division within the agency charged with enforcing professional standards, began a review process on Tuesday, CNN first reported. The investigation comes as the Secret Service continues to face scrutiny over security concerns surrounding President Donald Trump.
Although the agency confirmed the investigation involves “potential misconduct,” the specific details of the misconduct have not been disclosed. The New York Post on Wednesday reported that the probe appears to have something to do with potential leaks of sensitive information, but it did not immediately provide additional details. The Trump administration has lately made a mission of hunting down and punishing leaks.

Who Are the Secret Service Officials Under Investigation?
The agency confirmed that three of its employees are under investigation but offered no official identifying information. However, the three Secret Service personnel involved are not in law enforcement and belong to the agency’s communications office, an anonymous source told CNN.
CNN also reported that the investigation includes Anthony Guglielmi, who has served as the agency’s chief of communications since 2022.
What Happened to the Three Secret Service Officials?
With the opening of the investigation, the officials lost their security clearances and will not have access to work devices while the review is underway. The steps are standard procedure during administrative suspensions in active Secret Service investigations.
Has the Secret Service Faced Other Recent Investigations?
A Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President JD Vance was put on leave last month pending “an administrative investigation and potential criminal inquiry,” Guglielmi said in a statement to CNN. The agent is suspected of leaking information used in an MS NOW report detailing widespread frustration at the agency over Vance’s frenetic schedule.

MS NOW reported that agents at the short-staffed agency are forced to forego time off to accommodate frequent changes to the vice president’s personal and professional schedule, which can change often and without warning.
The implicated official has not been identified, and there have been no developments regarding potential criminal charges or administrative penalties.
Why Is the Secret Service Already Under Scrutiny?
The Secret Service has repeatedly faced intense scrutiny over the past few years over security breaches and threats against Trump. Following a flight back to the U.S. after a stop in Turkey, the Secret Service reportedly urged Trump not to take the newly acquired Qatari-gifted Air Force One plane, citing security concerns over Iranian missile threats. The flight back was then arranged to take place on the old Air Force One.
The Washington Post later reported that Trump used an airport catering truck to board an unassuming military aircraft, leaving several White House officials and journalists unaware that he was no longer aboard the legacy Air Force One.
The Secret Service also underwent massive restructuring changes after a 2024 assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. Then-Director of the Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle resigned in the aftermath, and six agents were suspended for their actions leading up to the shooting.
