Who Won the 2020 Election? We Asked Trump’s New AI Chatbot

President Donald Trump unveiled the AI-powered America.gov website on Tuesday, hailing the government chatbot for researching public services as emblematic of what cutting-edge technology can do at a time when many Americans mistrust artificial intelligence.

“We do not surrender to fears about what technologies will do to us,” Trump said. “We decide that those technologies will do for us some very, very incredible things.”

The goal is for Americans to ultimately use the site to apply for a passport or sign up for benefits like Medicare instead of chasing such services across the federal digital landscape.

But the interface also answers a wide variety of other questions, and we at Decision Points were among those quickly realizing that the answers contradict the president on a range of topics, from the 2020 election to climate change to how the Iran war has affected diesel prices.

Note: The site only queries official government data. So our “Does AI pose a threat to humanity?” question got a polite demurral. And conspiracy theorists who distrust official data will probably be unmoved.

Here are some noteworthy replies we got today:

Did the so-called Department of Government Efficiency result in significant government savings?

America.gov: “The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has not verified that DOGE’s claimed totals are reliable, significant savings.”

This was going to be the signal achievement of Trump’s first year (back) in office. But by almost all measures (except DOGE’s own) it failed.

What are the names of the fifth-largest Great Lake and the gulf off the southern U.S. coast?

“Fifth-largest Great Lake: Lake America (formerly Lake Ontario). … Gulf off the southern U.S. coast: Gulf of America (formerly Gulf of Mexico).”

Not a surprise. As president, Trump basically controls what the government calls these features.

Is climate change real, and if it is, what causes it?

“Yes. U.S. science agencies report that Earth’s climate is warming and that human activities are the main cause of recent change.”

The site provided summaries of what NASA, the EPA and NOAA have concluded about climate change, namely that natural processes alone don’t explain recent warming, leaving human activity as a key cause.

Trump has repeatedly condemned climate change as a “hoax.”

DECISION POINTS:

A Flock of Bills and a Grape Squeeze

Who won the 2020 election?

“Joseph R. Biden Jr. won the 2020 U.S. presidential election.”

This won’t quiet Trump and supporters of his who claim – without proof – that Trump won but widespread fraud cheated him out of a second consecutive term.

Has any evidence emerged of significant voter fraud in 2020?

“Official investigations and certifications after the 2020 election did not find evidence of significant or widespread voter fraud that would have changed the presidential result.”

In any system as complex as American elections, there will always be some fraud and some errors, but America.gov clearly doesn’t think Trump’s claims of systemic fraud have held up.

How has the war with Iran affected diesel prices?

“U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) data link higher diesel prices in 2026 to Middle East military action on February 28, 2026, and reduced shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. … EIA also lists other drivers – crude cost, refining margins, inventories, exports, taxes, seasonal demand.”

A nuanced answer! Yes, the Iran war has sent prices skyward by reducing global flows of oil. But it’s not the only cause.

Trump said earlier this month that only Ukraine is responsible. “This isn’t done by the Middle East,” he said.

Have wage increases kept up with price increases for American consumers since February 2026?

“BLS data since February 2026 show nominal pay still rising, but real, inflation-adjusted hourly earnings did not keep up in the months right after February.”

In other words, things are getting less affordable. If you’re wondering why Americans are sour about the economy, this increase in the cost of living is ground zero.

It’ll be worth revisiting all of these questions in the weeks ahead. Trump is not likely to tolerate his AI-driven showcase contradicting him for long.
