May 27 (Reuters) – The Trump administration \u2060is \u2060in talks to \u2060provide funding to some drone companies, \u200bincluding Unusual Machines and Sequoia Capital-backed Neros, the \u200cWall Street Journal reported \u200con Wednesday, citing people familiar with \u2060the \u2060matter.<\/p>\n

Drone dominance was described as a “presidential priority” in President \u200bTrump’s $1.5 trillion defense budget request for fiscal year 2027.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Months-long discussions between private sector firms and the \u200bPentagon have included the Office of Strategic Capital, \u2060a \u2060Biden-era lending unit \u2060focused \u200bon companies critical to national security supply chains, the \u200bJournal reported.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Unusual Machines \u2060is a drone components maker that counts Donald Trump Jr. as an adviser, while Neros is a startup specializing in autonomous \u2060drones.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Performance Drone Works, which won a contract to supply the \u2060U.S. Army with reconnaissance drones, is also under consideration for possible funding, the report added.<\/p>\n

Reuters could not immediately verify the report. The White House, the Pentagon and the companies did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Some proposals being \u2060discussed include funding via a mix of debt and equity that could give the government ownership stakes, the report said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
