July 23 (Reuters) – The U.S. \u2060Coast \u2060Guard said on \u2060Thursday that a Kenmore Air seaplane in Washington \u200bstate with 11 people on board made an emergency landing near \u200cSucia Island before catching fire, \u200cbut everyone on the plane was accounted for after \u2060a \u2060rescue operation.<\/p>\n

Kenmore Air, the largest U.S. seaplane airline, said a \u200bde Havilland DHC-3 Otter plane that departed from Lake Union, Seattle, was involved in an accident in Shallow Bay near Sucia \u200bIsland at about 5:15 p.m. PDT (0015 GMT).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

An image released by the \u2060Coast \u2060Guard showed the seaplane \u2060on \u200bfire in the water at the crash site.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Sucia Island is in \u200bWashington state’s San \u2060Juan Islands located north of Seattle near the Canadian border.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The Coast Guard and Canadian and local responders launched multiple assets to assist with the rescue, the Coast Guard said.<\/p>\n

“Several patients \u2060are being transported to local hospitals for medical evaluation and treatment,” \u2060it added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Kenmore Air said there were 10 passengers and one pilot on board. Two injured passengers were transported to medical facilities in Bellingham and another two injured passengers were transported to Orcas Island for evaluation and treatment, the airline said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“Kenmore Air is fully cooperating with the investigating authorities, and we will continue providing verified \u2060information as it becomes available,” CEO David Gudgel said in a statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Founded in 1946, Kenmore Air flies more than 90,000 passengers annually on scheduled, scenic and charter flights, \u200baccording to its website.<\/p>\n
