{"id":789,"date":"2026-07-23T23:41:40","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T23:41:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=789"},"modified":"2026-07-23T23:41:40","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T23:41:40","slug":"canada-to-consider-retaliating-against-latest-trump-tariffs-carney-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=789","title":{"rendered":"Canada to Consider Retaliating Against Latest Trump Tariffs, Carney Says"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>By David Ljunggren and Maria Cheng<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>OTTAWA, July 23 (Reuters) &#8211; Canada \u2060will \u2060do whatever it takes to \u2060defend itself in a trade war with the United States, including \u200bpossible\u00a0retaliatory measures, Prime Minister Mark Carney told a meeting of provincial premiers on Thursday after the U.S. \u200cannounced new tariffs.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=787\">Trump to Impose Forced Labor Duties on Friday as Temporary 10% US Tariffs Expire<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>U.S. President Donald Trump \u200cannounced on Monday new 50% tariffs on a variety of Canadian products to take effect \u2060on August 19.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 &#8220;We \u2060are intensifying our trade negotiations with the United States and will \u200bnot hesitate to defend our interests if we have to,&#8221; Carney told the meeting in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, describing the new U.S. measures as unwarranted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;Everything&#8217;s on the table if there&#8217;s no agreement,&#8221; he said, \u200bspeaking of potential countermeasures without providing specifics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Trump and Carney agreed this week to intensify bilateral \u2060trade talks. \u2060This is occurring against \u2060the backdrop of \u200bTrump&#8217;s decision on July 1 not to extend the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement trade pact for \u200banother 16 years, leaving it \u2060in force but requiring annual reviews.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The U.S. is negotiating with Canada and Mexico in separate tracks, and Washington has said it is making more progress with Mexico.
