July 23 (Reuters) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr \u2060Zelenskiy \u2060said on Thursday \u2060the U.S. aerospace and defence company \u200bRaytheon had expressed an interest in joint production of \u200cPatriot interceptors, as Kyiv \u200cseeks to bolster air defences against \u2060escalating \u2060Russian ballistic missile attacks.<\/p>\n

“I am grateful for the company’s \u200breadiness to take our partnership to an even higher level, where Ukraine would co-produce, together with \u200bRaytheon, some of the most vital air defense assets \u2013 \u2060Patriot \u2060interceptors,” Zelenskiy wrote on \u2060X \u200bin English after meeting a delegation from the RTX -owned \u200bcompany.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ukraine has \u2060long called for help from its Western partners in building up supplies of interceptors to down Russian ballistic missiles and sought agreement on \u2060securing a licence.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

U.S. President Donald Trump said during the \u2060NATO summit in Turkey this month that Washington would grant Ukraine a licence to manufacture Patriot missile interceptors.<\/p>\n

Zelenskiy said discussions with the Raytheon delegation, led by Vice President Joseph DeAntona, also focused on “other areas of partnership regarding non-offensive military equipment.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Zelenskiy met U.S. \u2060ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker in Kyiv on Wednesday, with the discussion focusing on licences, and said he wanted “faster action and greater \u200bsupport” from Kyiv’s partners.<\/p>\n
