The complaint also said \u200bLindt has known for more than 20 years that its cocoa is produced with child labor and profits from the practice.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;A reasonable consumer would not expect a company &#8216;committed to respecting human rights&#8217; and &#8216;conducting business \u200bin an ethical, legal and environmentally and socially responsible manner&#8217; to use widespread child labor \u2060in \u2060its cocoa supply chain,&#8221; \u2060the complaint said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>According \u200bto the complaint, Lindt sources 100% of its consumer-grade cocoa beans from Ghana and sources \u200bcocoa butter from Ivory \u2060Coast.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>International Rights Advocates, a public interest law firm, filed the lawsuit. It has also pursued cases accusing chocolate makers Mars, Mondelez and Nestle of relying on child labor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;Lindt &amp; Sprungli takes the issue of child labor very seriously and strongly condemns all forms of child labor and denies the \u2060allegations in the complaint,&#8221; a Lindt spokesperson said in an email on Thursday. &#8220;We \u2060have supplier protocols in place, and we systematically investigate suspected cases of child labor in our supply chain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=771\">Lockheed Martin, RTX Lift 2026 Forecasts as Pentagon Looks to Restock Weapons<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The Kilchberg, Switzerland-based company&#8217;s website contains a 2030 Sustainability Plan that discusses Lindt&#8217;s efforts to support cocoa farmers in West Africa and reduce risks from child labor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Lindt also publishes a &#8220;Modern Slavery Statement&#8221; that discusses its &#8220;tailored strategy&#8221; to reduce the risks, including by honoring the Rainforest Alliance certification for farming practices.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The lawsuit seeks to end Lindt&#8217;s alleged &#8220;unlawful conduct directed at D.C. consumers,&#8221; and does not seek damages.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Terry \u2060Collingsworth, executive director of International Rights Advocates, said in an email that his\u00a0research &#8220;confirmed that Lindt, like the other major cocoa companies, has great paper policies and virtually no implementation, particularly on the child labor issue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>His firm has also sued Apple, Cargill \u200band Starbucks over alleged forced labor in their supply chains.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=769\">US Senate Blocks Resolution Curbing Trump\u2019s Iran War Powers<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>(Reporting by Jonathan Stempel \u200bin New York; Editing by Cynthia Osterman)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><b>Copyright 2026 Thomson Reuters<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>US News is a recognized leader in college, grad school, hospital, mutual fund, and car rankings.
