HANOI, July 23 (Reuters) – Vietnam’s foreign \u2060ministry \u2060said on Thursday that \u2060it remained committed to bringing trade negotiations \u200bwith the United States to a conclusion, urging Washington to wrap \u200cup its Section 301 \u200cinvestigation into the southeast Asian country.<\/p>\n

The appeal came \u2060after a \u2060meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and \u200bVietnam’s Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung on the sidelines of an ASEAN summit in Manila, where the two sides discussed \u200bways to strengthen ties and rebalance trade.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It follows more than \u2060a year \u2060of talks between \u2060Hanoi \u200band its largest export market, with U.S. President Donald Trump’s temporary \u200b10% global tariff \u2060on goods shipped from Vietnam scheduled to expire on Friday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Vietnam is facing three separate Trump administration probes targeting Hanoi for allegedly distorting trade through excess capacity, intellectual property \u2060violations, and the use of goods produced by forced labour.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Vietnam \u2060called for the United States to conclude the Section 301 investigation with a decision that fully recognises Vietnam’s efforts, the foreign ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Section 301 of U.S. trade law is a provision that authorises investigations into alleged unfair trade practices.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Trung said Vietnam is willing to facilitate U.S. firms in \u2060expanding their investment and business activities in the country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The U.S. trade deficit with Vietnam reached $75.3 billion in the first half of this year, an annual increase \u200bof 21%, Vietnam’s government data showed.<\/p>\n
