{"id":701,"date":"2026-07-21T17:12:52","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T17:12:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=701"},"modified":"2026-07-21T17:12:52","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T17:12:52","slug":"us-lawmakers-urge-trump-to-act-against-eu-tech-rules-suggest-trade-probes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=701","title":{"rendered":"US Lawmakers Urge Trump to Act Against EU Tech Rules, Suggest Trade Probes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>By Foo Yun Chee<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>BRUSSELS, July 21 (Reuters) &#8211; A group of \u206025 \u2060U.S. lawmakers has written to \u2060U.S. President Donald Trump urging him to act against Europe&#8217;s tech rules \u200bincluding launching trade investigations, saying EU digital policies unfairly target U.S. Big Tech.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=699\">US Appeals Court Overturns Order Releasing Pro-Palestinian Protester Mahdawi<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>In a letter seen by \u200cReuters, the lawmakers focused on the \u200cEuropean Union&#8217;s Digital Markets Act aimed at reining in the power of Amazon, Apple, Booking \u2060Holdings, TikTok \u2060owner ByteDance, Google, Meta Platforms and Microsoft.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;We write to bring to your \u200battention the many ways the EU continues to pursue anti-competitive acts, policies, and practices as a tool of economic extraction and regulatory coercion against American firms and to encourage your administration to take decisive action before \u200bthe EU further entrenches this anti-American regime,&#8221; the lawmakers wrote in the letter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The European Commission, \u2060which \u2060says its rules do not \u2060target any countries \u200band seek to ensure a level playing field, did not immediately respond to an emailed \u200brequest for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The lawmakers, all \u2060Republicans and seven of them members of the House of Representatives trade subcommittee, including Adrian Smith who chairs that committee, said the likely inclusion of Amazon and Microsoft&#8217;s cloud units under the DMA &#8220;would impose unprecedented regulatory burdens that European and Chinese cloud competitors would not face.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>They also criticised EU \u2060regulators&#8217; fine against Google expected to be announced this week for alleged breaches of \u2060the DMA, saying the sanction ignored the company&#8217;s significant changes to its search service.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=697\">Trump Administration to Unveil Forced Labor Trade Action Soon, Says Greer<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>They questioned the Commission&#8217;s designations of Apple, Meta and Amazon as gatekeepers under DMA rules while Chinese retail giants Temu and AliExpress are excluded.
