{"id":685,"date":"2026-07-21T11:09:31","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T11:09:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=685"},"modified":"2026-07-21T11:09:31","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T11:09:31","slug":"trump-administration-sued-by-rights-groups-over-attempted-childcare-funding-cuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=685","title":{"rendered":"Trump Administration Sued by Rights Groups Over Attempted Childcare Funding Cuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>By Kanishka Singh<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>WASHINGTON, July 20 (Reuters) &#8211; Civil rights groups said \u2060they \u2060filed a lawsuit against President \u2060Donald Trump&#8217;s administration on Monday over the government&#8217;s attempt to restrict federal childcare \u200band family assistance funding.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=683\">Pop Vocalist D4vd Faces Evidentiary Hearing in Murder of Teenage Girl<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The American Civil Liberties Union, the National Women&#8217;s Law Center and the National Center for \u200cLaw and Economic Justice said in \u200cthe lawsuit against the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that they sought correspondence between \u2060federal officials \u2060and pro-Trump right-wing online influencer Nick Shirley.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>A viral video by Shirley in \u200blate 2025 was publicly amplified and credited by senior administration officials as the basis for the attempted funding restrictions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The video alleged some childcare centers in Minnesota were fraudulent. News reports subsequently said the claims were misleading and \u200bexaggerated.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Earlier this month, HHS rescinded the $10 billion freeze on child care subsidies and social services funding \u2060for \u2060five states governed by Democrats\u00a0 \u2013 \u2060California, Illinois, Colorado, \u200bNew York and Minnesota \u2013 after legal obstacles got in the way of the freeze attempts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>A federal \u200bjudge blocked the government \u2060from freezing the funds earlier this year for the duration of a lawsuit against the freeze brought by the states.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>HHS did not respond to a request for comment on Monday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Trump, who earlier this year ordered an aggressive immigration crackdown in Minnesota, has alleged that Somali communities in the state have engaged in \u2060fraud.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=681\">Houthi Red Sea Blockade Would Lift Oil Prices, but Workarounds Could Limit Impact<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Rights groups say the crackdown has created a fearful environment and that Trump has \u2060used isolated fraud cases as an excuse to target immigrants.
