{"id":665,"date":"2026-07-20T18:15:06","date_gmt":"2026-07-20T18:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=665"},"modified":"2026-07-20T18:15:06","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T18:15:06","slug":"us-senators-at-airshow-to-reassure-foreign-defense-contractors-urge-tariff-free-trade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=665","title":{"rendered":"US Senators at Airshow to Reassure Foreign Defense Contractors, Urge Tariff-Free Trade"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>By David Shepardson<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>FARNBOROUGH, England, July 20 (Reuters) &#8211; A bipartisan group \u2060of \u2060nine U.S. senators on Monday \u2060sought to reassure defense contractors from American allies that growing demand for \u200btheir products is real and urged the Trump administration not to impose tariffs on aerospace products.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=663\">Quiz: Find the Best Country for You<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;Our message is \u200cencouragement to them to increase their \u200ccapabilities to send the message that the demand signal is for real,&#8221; said Republican Senator Jerry \u2060Moran at \u2060the Farnborough airshow. &#8220;We are doing the things in Congress that suggest that the \u200bdemand is only going to grow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Moran added, &#8220;We need more demand to meet the demand for protecting our country.&#8221; He said the event allows lawmakers to have talks especially with the Europeans &#8220;to reiterate and recommit ourselves that \u200bthe United States wants to participate in a global economy and global national security.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Democratic Senator Jeanne \u2060Shaheen \u2060said the senators represent a \u2060broad swath of \u200bthe U.S., where aerospace is significant. She noted the U.S. had its biggest presence ever \u200bat Farnborough.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>She noted last year \u2060China had an increased presence at the Paris air show. &#8220;The fact that we have such a large presence is important not just to America&#8217;s industry but also to the partnerships that we need to have around the world to not only improve our economic security but our national security,&#8221; Shaheen said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Shaheen \u2060said there are key places where the U.S. and European Union need to work \u2060together to address defense needs and the backlog.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=661\">Trump Calls for Review Related to Scientific Manual Used by Judges<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Earlier this month, the U.S. Commerce Department said it had completed a probe into imported commercial aircraft, jet engines and parts and found foreign goods raise U.S. national security concerns but the Trump administration is not immediately seeking new tariffs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Under heavy lobbying by the U.S. aviation sector, the Trump administration agreed to exempt airplanes and parts from tariffs as part of trade deals after briefly imposing tariffs on aviation last year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Moran, Shaheen and others oppose tariffs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Eric Fanning, CEO of the Aerospace Industries \u2060Association, noted that the U.S. aerospace and defense industry has seen a 25% export increase over the last year with more than 2 million U.S. employees. &#8220;We are by far the global leaders,&#8221; Fanning said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Airplanes and parts have enjoyed a tariff-free regime under the 1979 \u200bCivil Aircraft Agreement, in which the U.S. sector enjoyed a $75 billion annual trade \u200bsurplus.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=659\">SpaceX Moves Starship Launch Attempt to Thursday<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>(Reporting by David Shepardson; Editing by Alexandra Hudson)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><b>Copyright 2026 Thomson Reuters<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>US News is a recognized leader in college, grad school, hospital, mutual fund, and car rankings.
