{"id":646,"date":"2026-07-18T23:09:52","date_gmt":"2026-07-18T23:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=646"},"modified":"2026-07-18T23:09:52","modified_gmt":"2026-07-18T23:09:52","slug":"mexico-ministries-investigate-cyclospora-linked-to-mexican-farm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=646","title":{"rendered":"Mexico Ministries Investigate Cyclospora Linked to Mexican Farm"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>By Emily Green<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>MEXICO CITY, July 18 (Reuters) &#8211; Mexico\u2019s \u2060health \u2060and agricultural ministries announced they \u2060are investigating a large outbreak of a foodborne illness \u200bin the U.S. linked to iceberg lettuce grown in Mexico and sold at Taco \u200cBell.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=644\">US Data Center Protests Go National as Backlash Grows<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Cofepris, Mexico\u2019s sanitary regulator, and \u200cSenasica, the country\u2019s agricultural and food safety regulator, said in a statement \u2060Friday that \u2060they have an interagency technical working group investigating the matter and \u200badopting preventive measures.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The group has undertaken inspections and traceability analyses that \u201care strictly preventive in nature\u201d and \u201caimed at mitigating any potential health risk,\u201d the agencies said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The CDC has reported \u200baround 100 hospitalizations of people becoming sick with cyclosporiasis, a parasitic infection that \u2060can \u2060cause severe diarrhea and other \u2060gastrointestinal \u200bsymptoms, after eating shredded lettuce at Taco Bell restaurants in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio \u200band West Virginia.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>On \u2060Friday, Taylor Farms, a California-based lettuce supplier, and food distributor Sysco, America\u2019s largest, said they are removing iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico, based on information provided by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=642\">Soccer-Spain\u2019s World Cup Winner Capdevila Seeks Trump\u2019s Help After US Entry Denial<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>An industry source who requested anonymity because \u2060they were not authorized to speak to the media told Reuters that \u2060the lettuce was produced as 5-pound (2.3-kg) bags at Taylor Farms&#8217; facility in Guanajuato, in central Mexico. The source also said that Sysco widely distributes such bags to hospitals, ball parks and fast-food chains.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Mexico\u2019s health and agricultural ministries cautioned in their statement that &#8220;the investigation remains ongoing, and it is important to emphasize that identifying a product&#8217;s country of origin through traceability does not, by itself, confirm that contamination occurred in \u2060Mexico.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Taylor Farms&#8217; growing and processing facilities in Mexico were the source of another major U.S. cyclosporiasis outbreak.
