{"id":632,"date":"2026-07-18T04:15:53","date_gmt":"2026-07-18T04:15:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=632"},"modified":"2026-07-18T04:15:53","modified_gmt":"2026-07-18T04:15:53","slug":"prosecutors-file-attempted-aggravated-murder-charges-in-stabbing-of-muslim-man-in-utah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=632","title":{"rendered":"Prosecutors File Attempted Aggravated Murder Charges in Stabbing of Muslim Man in Utah"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>By Kanishka Singh<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>WASHINGTON, July 17 (Reuters) &#8211; Prosecutors in a Utah \u2060county \u2060announced the filing of two attempted \u2060aggravated murder charges on Friday against a man who police said had \u200bstabbed a Muslim man multiple times earlier this week because of the victim&#8217;s religion.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=631\">Soccer-Trump Back in World Cup Spotlight After Starring Role in Tournament\u2019s Controversies<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim \u200cGill said the defendant, Peter Michael \u200cLarsen, was charged with two counts of first-degree felony attempted aggravated murder over Monday&#8217;s knife attack \u2060at the Valley \u2060Fair Mall in West Valley City.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;In the filed information document, notices are \u200bgiven for a potential hate crime, the defendant as a habitual violent offender, and use of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person,&#8221; Gill&#8217;s office said in a statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;An alleged unprovoked attack on anyone in our community is \u200bunacceptable, but an attack allegedly motivated because of the victim&#8217;s religion is alarming,&#8221; Gill added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The victim \u2060had &#8220;multiple \u2060stab wounds all over his \u2060body and was \u200bbleeding profusely,&#8221; police said earlier this week. A friend said he was stabbed 15 times and \u200bneeded surgeries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Police had said the \u2060defendant told them he &#8220;intends to kill Muslims,&#8221; that &#8220;he had targeted the victim with intent to kill him because of his religion,&#8221; and that he constituted &#8220;a substantial danger to the public if released based on his violent actions &#8230; ideologies and pre-planned mass casualty events.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>DEFENDANT PINNED TO THE GROUND BY BYSTANDERS<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>A charging document filed on \u2060Friday said Larsen stated he wanted &#8220;to be a catalyst so people would rid the \u2060country of Muslims.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=629\">How a Dispute Over E-Commerce Firm Coupang Is Testing US-South Korea Ties<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The document cited Larsen as saying that &#8220;if he could go from one Muslim to another in close proximity, he would have killed as many as possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Larsen also stated he chose that location because he knew there were Muslims there, according to the charging document.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Authorities said the defendant was pinned to the ground by bystanders before officers arrived on the scene.
