{"id":599,"date":"2026-07-16T05:11:49","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T05:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=599"},"modified":"2026-07-16T05:11:49","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T05:11:49","slug":"tesla-driver-accelerated-into-house-in-fatal-texas-crash-ntsb-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=599","title":{"rendered":"Tesla Driver Accelerated Into House in Fatal Texas Crash, NTSB Says"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>By David Shepardson<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>WASHINGTON, July 15 (Reuters) &#8211; The driver \u2060of \u2060a Tesla Model 3 that \u2060killed a 76-year-old woman when it ploughed into her home \u200bat high speed in Katy, Texas in June had overridden the vehicle&#8217;s advanced driver assistance \u200csystem, the National Transportation Safety \u200cBoard said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=597\">In a Patagonia Town With an 85-Foot Messi Statue, Argentines Celebrate Reaching World Cup Final<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The 44-year-old driver had engaged Full Self Driving (FSD) (Supervised) and manually \u2060overrode FSD \u2060by fully depressing the accelerator pedal and the 2025 model vehicle\u2019s \u200bspeed was greater than 70 mph (113 kph) when the crash occurred, the NTSB said, citing electronic data recovered from the vehicle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The preliminary findings support Tesla&#8217;s argument that driver action caused \u200bthe crash. The house is on a residential two-lane road with a 30 \u2060mph \u2060speed limit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The NTSB has \u2060investigated numerous \u200bTesla crashes where its driver assistance systems were in use. The National Highway Traffic \u200bSafety Administration is also \u2060investigating the crash.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Martha Avila died as a result of her injuries at a nearby hospital. Avila&#8217;s daughter, Jennifer Barbour, and her husband, Justin Barbour, said the Model 3&#8217;s driver, Michael Butler, told law enforcement he engaged Autopilot before plowing through the \u2060front wall of Avila&#8217;s home.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The NTSB confirmed the statement of Ashok Elluswamy, vice \u2060president of AI software at Tesla, who posted on X last month that &#8220;the driver manually overrode self-driving by pressing the accelerator all the way to 100%.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=595\">Ex-Federal Reserve Adviser Sentenced to Prison for Lying About China Ties<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Since 2016, NHTSA has opened nearly 50 special investigations of Tesla crashes believed to involve advanced driver assistance systems.
