{"id":539,"date":"2026-07-14T16:45:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T16:45:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=539"},"modified":"2026-07-14T16:45:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T16:45:16","slug":"meta-used-ai-to-target-workers-with-medical-conditions-for-layoffs-lawsuit-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=539","title":{"rendered":"Meta Used AI to Target Workers With Medical Conditions for Layoffs, Lawsuit Claims"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>By Daniel Wiessner<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>July 14 (Reuters) &#8211; Twenty-six \u2060former \u2060employees of Meta \u2060Platforms have filed a lawsuit against \u200bthe tech company, accusing it of using AI-powered software \u200cthat disproportionately targeted people \u200cwith disabilities or who took medical leave \u2060in \u2060selecting people for mass layoffs.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=537\">Russia Launches American and Two Cosmonauts to Space Station With Rare NASA Chief Visit<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The lawsuit, filed in Oakland, \u200bCalifornia, federal court late Monday, says that the company relied on factors such as productivity and AI \u200btoken usage when it began slashing thousands of \u2060jobs earlier \u2060this year, disadvantaging \u2060people \u200bwho missed work because of medical conditions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Meta earlier this year \u200bsaid it \u2060planned to lay off 10% of its global workforce, or nearly 8,000 people, beginning in May, with more job cuts coming later.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The 26 \u2060plaintiffs, who filed the lawsuit anonymously, are accusing Meta of \u2060violating federal and state laws that ban discrimination or retaliation against workers who have disabilities, take medical leave or are pregnant.
