{"id":396,"date":"2026-06-25T21:15:26","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T21:15:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=396"},"modified":"2026-06-25T21:15:26","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T21:15:26","slug":"top-bankruptcy-attorney-sprayregen-to-join-us-law-firm-paul-weiss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=396","title":{"rendered":"Top Bankruptcy Attorney Sprayregen to Join US Law Firm Paul Weiss"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>By David Thomas<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>June 25 (Reuters) &#8211; James Sprayregen, who \u2060over \u2060three decades built the restructuring \u2060practice of Kirkland &amp; Ellis and turned it into the \u200bgo-to law firm for distressed companies, is joining law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton &amp; \u200cGarrison, the firm said on \u200cThursday.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=394\">Cal-Maine, Others Close to Settling DOJ Egg Pricing Probe, Bloomberg News Reports<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Sprayregen will co-lead the restructuring and debt capital solutions practice at Paul \u2060Weiss, the \u2060firm said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Sprayregen, who founded Kirkland &amp; Ellis&#8217; restructuring group in 1990, left \u200bthe law firm in 2024 to become the vice chairman of global strategy and growth at the private investment firm Hilco Global.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Kirkland under his watch grew to become \u200ba top adviser to companies in the midst of Chapter 11 bankruptcies, including \u2060Caesars, \u2060retailer Toys &#8220;R&#8221; Us, and United \u2060Airlines.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The \u200bChicago-based lawyer had left Kirkland in 2006 for a three-year stint at Goldman Sachs, \u200bbefore returning to \u2060the law firm and later retiring from Kirkland.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=392\">US Proposes to Drop Brake Pedal Requirements for Self-Driving Vehicles<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>His imminent arrival at Paul Weiss would be the latest in a series of partner\u00a0hires the firm has made since tapping Scott Barshay to take over as chairman following the resignation of Brad \u2060Karp as its leader earlier this year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>In June alone, the Wall Street \u2060law firm said it has hired five partners.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Barshay on Thursday called Sprayregen a &#8220;superstar lawyer&#8221; and longtime friend.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Bankruptcy work can be a major source of revenue for large law firms, as corporate restructurings often require armies of lawyers and sometimes drag on for many years. Kirkland&#8217;s revenue in 2025 crossed the $10 billion threshold, a 20% increase from the prior year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Sprayregen in a statement called Paul Weiss &#8220;a true restructuring powerhouse.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Paul Weiss \u2060on Thursday also said Paul Basta, a partner since 2017 and co-head of the firm\u2019s restructuring practice, will step down at year-end as part of a long-term succession plan.
