KANSAS CITY, Missouri, June 18 (Reuters) – \u2060Police \u2060were still searching on \u2060Thursday for a man suspected of carrying out a \u200bseries of shootings on Kansas City highways, including an attack on an Uber \u200cdriver ferrying fans to Tuesday \u200cevening’s Argentina v Algeria World Cup match.<\/p>\n

The shootings, which killed one \u2060person and \u2060injured four others, unfolded within a roughly 30-minute window along \u200bInterstate 670 and Interstate 70, with police responding to multiple scenes across the city.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A group of Argentina fans told Argentine outlet La Nacion that they were \u200bshot at while riding in an Uber to the game.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“The car was \u2060moving, \u2060another car came by and \u2060shot \u200bat it twice,” one fan said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The passenger said the driver then stopped the \u200bcar and they \u2060noticed he had been wounded.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“He braked, and I saw his leg, the guy had a hole in it,” the fan said. “We called the police. It was horrible.”<\/p>\n

Authorities said there was no indication the attack was linked \u2060to the match or the tournament.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Police identified the suspect as 22-year-old Oscar \u2060Sanchez-Munoz, who they warned should be considered armed and dangerous.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Officers tracked the suspect to a house in nearby Independence, Missouri, shortly after the shootings, triggering a standoff. A fire broke out inside the property during the confrontation, and when police later entered the home, they found no one inside.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“We are hot on the trail of this subject and we want to make sure that he’s \u2060taken into custody as soon as possible,” Kansas City police chief Stacey Graves said at a press conference.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The shootings happened 10 days after nine people sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a shooting four \u200bmiles from England’s World Cup base camp in Kansas City.<\/p>\n
