June 3 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump \u2060said \u2060Iran has agreed not \u2060to have a nuclear weapon and that he \u200bwould probably meet with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei at some point \u200cif things “work out”.<\/p>\n

“They’ve already agreed \u200cthey’re not going to have a nuclear weapon,” Trump \u2060told “Pod \u2060Force One” in an interview broadcast on Wednesday, while speaking \u200babout Iran.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Asked about Khamenei’s involvement in talks with the U.S. on ending hostilities, Trump said, “He’s involved, absolutely. … I think they have a lot \u200bof respect for him.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Trump said he was hearing Iran’s leader \u2060was \u2060not doing too well \u2060but \u200bwas giving his approval during the negotiations. Trump added that he had \u200bnot had “the privilege \u2060of meeting” Khamenei.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“I’d like to meet him. We probably will meet at some point, depending on how it all works out,” Trump said.<\/p>\n

The U.S. president said he viewed the Iran war \u2060as a success because the country’s military had been defeated. The \u2060conflict, which began with U.S.-Israeli strikes on February 28, has upended the global energy market and has proven unpopular with Americans months before November congressional elections.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“Iran’s a big success,” Trump said in the interview. “We’ll see what happens. We’re going to, we’re working on a deal, and that happens fine. If it doesn’t happen, that’s OK too. \u2060We’ll do it the other way.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He did not specify what that might mean, but has said in the past that the U.S. would resume strikes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
