The report also revealed how \u200bNobitex continued operating even after the government-imposed internet shutdown, processing millions of dollars of transactions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cWhile Iran\u2019s economy is in free fall, the regime has chosen to co-opt digital asset technologies for its own corrupt agenda, \u200bincluding evading sanctions and transferring wealth out of the country,\u201d Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said \u2060in a \u2060statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The Reuters investigation showed \u2060how Nobitex is \u200bcontrolled by two brothers from one of Iran\u2019s most powerful families, with close ties to \u200bthe new supreme leader. The \u2060two are members of the Kharrazi family, one of the most influential dynasties in the Islamic Republic. Corporate records show that when the exchange started, the brothers were listed under a surname rarely used by members of the family.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The U.S. Treasury announced Tuesday that the two brothers, Seyed Mohammad \u2060Ali Aghamir Mohammad Ali and Seyed Mohammad Aghamir Mohammad Ali, had also been individually \u2060sanctioned, along with the exchange\u2019s chief executive officer, Amir Hossein Rad.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=233\">Mexico Backs Extending USMCA Trade Pact for 16 Years<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Nobitex had provided \u201csignificant support\u201d to the Iranian government and facilitated a \u201csignificant number\u201d of digital transactions linked to the IRGC and Iran\u2019s central bank, the U.S. Treasury said in the statement.\u00a0\u201cFollowing the commencement of U.S. combat operations in Iran, Nobitex played a role in protecting and moving assets and funds out of Iran to shield regime wealth despite internet blackouts.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Nobitex could not be reached for comment on the sanctions, which were announced after normal business hours \u2060in Iran.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>In an emailed statement to Reuters in April, Nobitex said it had no direct government connections and denied assisting the state. It said that any illicit funds moving through Nobitex did so without management approval or awareness.
