He is seeking at least $5 million in damages \u200bfor the class.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Familiar Faces, which is optional, uses artificial intelligence to identify and remember people so that when they return to a home or a business, notifications can include specific names.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Those affected \u201cdid not consent to have \u200btheir privacy rights violated at the entrance way,\u201d according to the suit. \u201cMillions of other Americans \u2060passed by \u2060a Ring security camera \u2060and unknowingly had \u200btheir facial recognition information collected.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Amazon declined to comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The suit, which seeks unspecified damages for those impacted, \u200bis just the latest in \u2060a string of controversies around Amazon\u2019s Ring, the unit that makes the eponymous smart doorbells and security systems.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Ring, which Amazon bought in 2018 for $1 billion, in February faced a backlash over a service that it advertised during the Super Bowl that it said helps people find lost dogs by activating \u2060its neighborhood network of cameras. Users and privacy advocates were concerned\u00a0the cameras could be \u2060deployed to surveil whole neighborhoods or areas.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=214\">China Recognises Brazil as Foot-And-Mouth Disease Free, Lifts Bans<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Following the criticism, Ring in February ended an unrelated partnership with Flock Safety, which deploys license plate readers and cameras for law enforcement use.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>In 2023, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission reached a $5.8 million settlement with Ring over privacy allegations that it said included a former employee spying on female customers in their home bedrooms and bathrooms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The FTC said Ring employees had unrestricted access to customers\u2019 sensitive video data, allowing them and contractors to view and download it.
