{"id":205,"date":"2026-06-01T23:19:38","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T23:19:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=205"},"modified":"2026-06-01T23:19:38","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T23:19:38","slug":"los-angeles-sheriff-says-ice-enforcement-not-expected-at-world-cup-matches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=205","title":{"rendered":"Los Angeles Sheriff Says ICE Enforcement Not Expected at World Cup Matches"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>By Rory Carroll<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>LOS ANGELES, June 1 (Reuters) &#8211; Federal officials have told \u2060Los \u2060Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna that civil \u2060immigration enforcement will not take place at FIFA World Cup games or events in \u200bLos Angeles, Luna said on Monday, as authorities outlined security plans for eight matches beginning on June 12.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=203\">Financial Adviser Whose Name Appeared on Epstein Files Has Left Merrill, Spokesperson Says<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;A couple of weeks \u200cago there was some reporting, or rumors, \u200cabout ICE potentially being at the FIFA games or events,&#8221; Luna told a press conference of local, state and \u2060federal law enforcement \u2060officials.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;I personally called the head of Homeland Security here for the L.A. region and \u200bwhat he stated is that there will be federal agents &#8230; because it&#8217;s going to take all of us to make sure that all the venues, the scoped and unscoped events, are secure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;But in regard\u00a0to civil immigration enforcement, they told us that specifically would not \u200bbe occurring at any of the games.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;Any of that is subject to change, but I have trust that \u2060they&#8217;re \u2060giving me the appropriate information \u2060because if that starts \u200boccurring, we&#8217;re going to have a whole new host of problems,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Immigration raids by masked ICE agents \u200bin Los Angeles last year sparked \u2060a wave of demonstrations in the region.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>HEIGHTENED SECURITY FOR IRAN&#8217;S MATCHES\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Luna said law enforcement would increase staffing around Iran&#8217;s two matches in Los Angeles, with authorities monitoring possible protests or other activity near the stadium and fan zones.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Iran and the United States are in negotiations to end their three-month-old war.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Iran is scheduled to play its first match of the tournament on \u2060June 15 at SoFi Stadium near Los Angeles, a region home to the largest concentration of \u2060Iranians outside Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=202\">US Court Blocks Pentagon From Removing Transgender Troops, for Now<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;Iran does bring a different dynamic because of the current world events,&#8221; Luna said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;So there will be additional staffing for some of those games.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>ZERO TOLERANCE\u00a0FOR UNAUTHORIZED DRONE USAGE<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Officials also warned that drones would be subject to strict enforcement around World Cup venues, with temporary flight restrictions expected around facilities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;If a drone&#8217;s violating a temporary flight restriction, the capability exists to bring that drone down into a safe location away from the crowds,&#8221; said Patrick Grandy, FBI assistant director in charge.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;We are going to be constantly monitoring the areas around the facilities, looking for violators of those temporary flight restrictions,&#8221; Grandy said, warning of &#8220;a zero \u2060tolerance policy&#8221; for those who willingly violate the restrictions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the security effort would bring an unusually large law enforcement presence to the region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;Between the dates of June 11th, all the way through July 19th, if you are a criminal, this is a terrible time to commit \u200ba crime,&#8221; Hochman said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=200\">U.S. Lawmakers Are Oldest of Any Democracy.
