Seth Cline here with what you may have missed in this short post-holiday week of Decision Points.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=181\">Drivers in Russian-Controlled Crimea Grapple With Gasoline Shortages<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2><b>Tuesday<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Fresh off the long weekend, Olivier <u>surveyed<\/u> ongoing peace talks in Iran, which President Donald Trump said Monday were \u201cproceeding nicely.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Were a deal to come to pass, Olivier noted it would need to address Iran\u2019s nuclear weapons, obviously. Tehran promised not to \u201cseek, develop or acquire\u201d nukes as part of the nuclear deal negotiated under the Obama administration, but after Trump tore that up, there\u2019s no guarantee Iran will commit to that again.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Any agreement would also likely need to include solutions to the Strait of Hormuz blockage and the strict sanctions on Iran, plus commitments from Iran to limit its uranium enrichment and its funding of proxies in the region like Hamas and Hezbollah.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<h2><b>Wednesday<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Midweek, Olivier <u>turned to<\/u> Massachusetts, where Uber and Lyft drivers just unionized for the first time. Their fledgling App Drivers Union will be backed by a subsidiary of the Service Employees International Union, so Olivier called up the president of the national SEIU, April Verrett, to get a sense of what drivers are fighting for.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Besides pay and safety, drivers also want job security, she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cRight now these drivers are at the whim of the app, of the algorithm, and they can get kicked off or deactivated at any time, and you know it basically puts them out of work,\u201d Verrett said.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/officemovingamerica.com\/?p=179\">Motorola Targets Rogue Drones With $1.5 Billion D-Fend Deal<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Will a union mean higher prices for ride-hailers? \u201cRide-share fares increase without a union,\u201d she said. Could unionization spread? \u201cDefinitely,\u201d Verrett said. \u201cThis is the largest private-sector unionization \u2026 since 1941,\u201d she said, and it could be a model for \u201cthe next iteration of worker power.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<h2><b>Thursday<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Yesterday it was back to geopolitics, this time in Ukraine. It \u201cmay have dipped out of the headlines,\u201d as Olivier <u>wrote<\/u>, \u201cbut the largest land war in Europe since 1945 is still going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>And it&#8217;s been an eventful week on that battlefront. On Monday, Russia\u2019s foreign minister urged the U.S. and Europe to evacuate their diplomats from Kyiv ahead of renewed Russian strikes on the Ukrainian capital. After European leaders refused, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev posted that EU leaders must have \u201cdiplomats to spare and need to trim the headcount.&#8221; Woof.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>That belligerence could be related to the war\u2019s mounting toll on Russia. A British official said Wednesday that \u201calmost half a million Russians\u201d had been killed in the conflict, making it one of the deadliest wars since World War II.
