NEW YORK, May 28 (Reuters) – A \u2060U.S. \u2060District Court on \u2060Thursday denied the California Department of Parks \u200band Recreation’s bid to stop oil producer Sable Offshore \u200cCorp from moving oil on \u200ca long-disputed pipeline linked to the Santa \u2060Ynez \u2060offshore platform.<\/p>\n

The denial marks a setback for California’s efforts \u200bto stop the Santa Ynez project, which Sable restarted in March after the federal government’s intervention. For Sable, \u200bit marks a major win, sending the company’s shares \u2060up nearly \u206012%.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u2022 The Department \u2060of \u200bParks and Recreation had sought preliminary injunctive relief, citing irreparable \u200bharm to it \u2060from the use of a section of Sable’s pipeline under the Gaviota State Park.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u2022 The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California \u2060said the department “manifestly failed to demonstrate that it will suffer \u2060irreparable harm in the absence of preliminary injunctive relief.”<\/p>\n

\u2022 California State Parks is disappointed by the court decision and will continue to challenge Sable’s “egregious trespass on public land”, a spokesperson said in a statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u2022 Several other legal challenges from various California state bodies, including a lawsuit against \u2060the U.S. Department of Energy, continue to progress. Most are at preliminary stages, the district court noted in its order on Thursday.<\/p>\n
